Skiing in Slovakia to get better

There’s an article you can find on Easier Travel about the benefits of skiing in Slovakia, as distinct from going to the Alps or elsewhere in France, Austria or Italy for example. It is reported that some 200 million Euros are being invested in the region's skiing which is excellent news.

If you’ve never skied in Slovakia then you should go because it is different. Is it better? According to Mountain Paradise it is less expensive and it’s less crowded. However, the Tatras have a major limitation; there are very few if any interlinked resorts such as can be found in France or Austria for example. While Mountain Paradise claims that the Slovak ski scene is less crowded this applies to certain days and times; if you’ve ever been to Jasna on a Russian or a Polish holiday then “crowded” is not the word. And if you think that the French don’t know how to queue for a ski lift then wait till you’ve experienced Jasna. Don’t take your best skis.

Notwithstanding the above comments – if you get the opportunity to go to the Tatras, then you must do so. This commentator has spent many, many days skiing at resorts such as Strbske Pleso, Jasna, Chopok Juh, Drienica and has enjoyed the "small town" atmosphere that you get in Slovakia, the many spa facilities, and the reasonable prices. But go with your eyes wide-open.
